Installation of New Equipment to Better Suit Our Customers’ Needs
Johnstown, PA, October 2024 – Penn Machine, a manufacturer of wheels, axles, and related equipment for transit, railroad, mining, oil & gas, and industrial applications, has enhanced its Locomotive Division’s machining capacity with the addition of two DN Solutions VTR1216M vertical turning centers to the company’s Johnstown, PA facility. The turning centers are capable of turning gears up to 62.9” in diameter, as well as with live tool milling, drilling, threading, workpiece probing, and tool probing. This capital investment increases Penn Machine’s ability to manufacture gears that meet the tightest tolerances, while increasing operational flexibility to react to customers changing needs says Greg Becker, PMC Manufacturing Engineer.
Penn Machine has also invested in a Wele VB 315 Double Column Bridge Mill. This equipment has modernized toolpaths and allows for parts to run higher feeds and speeds while maintaining accuracy. “The increased table size enables the simultaneous setup of multiple jobs which results in increased productivity and faster delivery to our customers”. – Ryan Berkey, PMC Manufacturing Production Planner.
